President Obama’s solar announcements:
• Support for the solar workforce. The SunShot Initiative will build on our Solar Instructor Training Network, an initiative intended to support community college programs that train people to enter the solar industry. The program aims to help 50,000 people enter the solar workforce by 2020.
• More solar on U.S. businesses. 300+ public- and private-sector business leaders will increase solar use, including Home Depot, Ikea, Yahoo, Google, Lennar Homes and Goldman Sachs.
• More solar for affordable housing. The largest manager of affordable multifamily housing in the nation will install an additional 4 megawatts (MW) of solar power by 2020, and the non-profit Hispanic Housing Development Corporation to add 530 kilowatts (kw) of solar by the end of 2015.
