Title X Family Planning Program - “Since 2011, 13 states have taken actions to restrict participation by certain types of providers as subrecipients in the Title X program based on factors unrelated to the provider's’ ability to provide the services required under Title X effectively. In at least several instances, this has led to disruption of services or reduction of services where a public entity, such as a state health department, holds a Title X grant and makes 21 subawards to subrecipients for the provision of services. In response to these actions, this proposed rule requires that any Title X recipient sub-awarding funds for the provision of Title X services not prohibit a potential subrecipient from participating for reasons unrelated to its ability to provide services effectively.” Planned Parenthood receives roughly $70 million annually in Title X grants for contraceptives and cancer and sexually transmitted infection screenings, none of that can be used for abortion services by law.
TL:DR Title X Guarantees access and funding and this proposed rule lays the smack down on anything that tries to get in the way.

ORLY-EP0116B - Getting Control:  Abortion, Birth, Guns, Flesh Eating Algea, & More

Welcome back to ORLYRADIO #116b recorded Friday July 1st, 2016 - where we dismantle the current events for your edutainment through mostly rational conversations that make you go ‘Oh Really’! I’m your host Andy Cowen with usual suspect Daniel Atherton.

Law & Order:

  1. The Texas Supreme Court has sided with a family accused of not teaching its children anything while waiting “to be raptured.” Laura and Michael McIntyre began homeschooling their nine children inside the family’s El Paso motorcycle dealership more than a decade ago. The couple argued that school district officials violated their 14th Amendment rights by attempting to verify that their children were learning. The case then headed to the state’s Supreme Court, where the justices made a 6-3 ruling on technical grounds in favor of the McIntyres. But it didn’t answer larger constitutional questions about whether home-schooled children must be properly taught. Justices remanded the case to lower courts, saying its constitutional questions weren’t educational policy matters. But they didn’t issue an opinion on the overall constitutionality. http://kfor.com/2016/06/24/supreme-court-sides-with-family-accused-of-not-teaching-kids-while-waiting-to-be-raptured/

  2. Supreme Court refuses to hear another case on contraceptives: The Supreme Court disposed of a case testing religious objections to contraception in May. On Tuesday, the justices refused to hear another one.
The justices said they will not review a Washington state rule requiring pharmacies to fill prescriptions regardless of religious objections, while allowing exemptions for other reasons such as a patient's safety or ability to pay.
Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas dissented from the refusal to hear the case. "If this is a sign of how religious liberty claims will be treated in the years ahead, those who value religious freedom have cause for great concern," Alito wrote. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2016/06/28/supreme-court-religion-contraception-abortion-pharmacies/85055602/

  3. In a 5-3 decision Monday, the Supreme Court struck down two abortion restrictions in a Texas law, known as HB 2, that would have shut down dozens of clinics across the state. It mandated that abortions take place in ambulatory surgical centers, or mini hospitals, instead of regular clinics.

The Good:

  1. IRAN Nuclear Deal http://www.vox.com/2015/4/2/8336219/iran-nuclear-deal-plain-english

  2. Obama effectively neutered the Hobby Lobby ruling and ensured that all women, even those employed by ‘religious corporations,’ will have access to birth control covered at no cost to them; even if their evangelical employers object and refuse to provide it. Under the new rule, a closely held for-profit company that objects to covering contraception in its health plan can write a letter to the Department of Health and Human Services stating its objection. HHS will then notify a third-party insurer of the company's objection, and the insurer will provide birth control coverage to the company's female employees at no additional cost to the company.”

Candace Petterson said she started attending the Greater Mount Moriah Primitive Baptist Church about six months ago after moving to a new home in the Tampa area, but she received a troubling letter last week from the church, a delinquency notice asking her to contribute $50 a month, along with other assorted fees, to remain a member in good standing and vote on church matters. The letter, from assistant administrator Ladreda Spencer and Pastor B.R. Fulton Jr., also reminded Petterson that children – including her 11-year-old daughter – were expected to pay $5 a month to the church in addition to two annual $15 fees. http://www.rawstory.com/2015/07/florida-church-sends-1000-collection-notice-to-single-mother-because-she-didnt-tithe/
